sans is proud to present Foreboding, our group exhibition this summer featuring works submitted to us from a wide array of contemporary photographers working in and with the landscape and examining our relationship with it.
Foreboding
noun
1 a feeling that something bad will happen; fearful apprehension.
From the mundane everyday to the disquieting, sublime and post-apocalyptic, the exhibition concerns itself not just with the landscape, but with our place in it and the role we play in shaping its future. Since the New Topographics, landscape photography has evolved from glorified depictions of the untouched and picturesque, to examining human activity and interventions in nature — buildings, junk, infrastructure and man-made phenomena that imbue the landscape. A new consciousness has emerged with the damning realisation that no action is without consequence.
